I have an Audiovox d1817pk 8" 16:9 format. The player worked reasonably well, as well as expected, for four days. On the fourth day, I turned it on, and I noticed that the screen was very dark. I could still see shapes on the screen, and if I shined a bright light on it, I could see the picture at about 50% of normal brightness. I read reviews and found that this happened to other people as well. I have been very careful with this player, and I know that I did nothing to cause this. If I wanted to send it back to audiovox, I would have to pay $97 for repairs, and also shipping, is there anyway to fix this myself, or will I have to settle for a lot of disgruntled calls and emails to audiovox? Because I am not paying that much to fix something I didn't break in the first place and is only 4 days old. (more...)
